Inconsiderate Words from a Former NBA Journeyman-Paul Shirley

Former NBA journey man Paul Shirley was recently let go from his freelance position at ESPN, because of his outlandish comments about the victims of Haiti. Shirley comments were posted on flipcollective.com where the former NBA journey man stated his reason for not joining millions of people with aiding the people of Haiti. Here are his comments:

"I haven't donated a cent to the Haitian relief effort. And I probably will not."

"I haven't donated to the Haitian relief effort for the same reason that I don't give money to homeless men on the street. Based on past experiences, I don't think the guy with the sign that reads "Need You're Help" is going to do anything constructive with the dollar I might give him. If I use history as my guide, I don't think the people of Haiti will do much with my money either.

... Shouldn't much of the responsibility for the disaster lie with the victims of that disaster?"

"Shouldn't there be some discourse on how the millions of dollars that are being poured into Haiti will be spent? And at least a slight reprimand for the conditions prior to the earthquake? Some kind of inquisition? Something like this?:

Dear Haitians –

First of all, kudos on developing the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Your commitment to human rights, infrastructure, and birth control should be applauded.

As we prepare to assist you in this difficult time, a polite request: If it's possible, could you not re-build your island home in the image of its predecessor? Could you not resort to the creation of flimsy shanty- and shack-towns? And could some of you maybe use a condom once in a while?

Sincerely,

The Rest of the World

Now Shirley hails from the earthquake capital of the United States, California. I don’t know if he personally knows anyone affected by a natural disaster, but it is human nature to assist those in need. I’m not going to judge this guy, but I will say human……well I’m sure this guy wouldn’t feel this way if it was his hometown and people who he knew lost everything. The people of Haiti have a strong faith and WILL get through this with or without people like Shirley. Kudos to ESPN for releasing this guy. There are plenty of humans with feelings who can do his job and can probably do it better.

South Carolina's Lt. Governor Andre Bauer Comments-Insensitive??

South Carolina Lt. Governor Andre Bauer recently made remarks in which he compared those chronically dependent on welfare to stray animals who beg for food. As I watched the CNN anchors and commentators last night who were attacking Bauer as a racist for his comments, I paused in awe with a smile on my face. His comments weren’t racist at all. Those comments were bonehead and ignorant, but not racist. Here’s a fact, in this country there are more white people in this country than any other race. Therefore when we talk about welfare and public assistance we have to look at this very fact, that public assistance assist white people more than any other race in this country. So that’s why I was in awe when the anchors and commentators on CNN were calling Bauer’s statement racist? Could it be because he compared people on welfare to animals? Maybe that’s it.

I will agree with the Lt. Governor that, government welfare often produces a dependency which could last for generations. I’ve seen it often when I was working for social services in New York City. Was his comment racist? I don’t know and I’m not quick to call him a racist, but because he made this statement and no matter how insensitive it was, he is allegedly racist—and by extension so are all conservatives also. Next time, choose better words Andre. Here are his comments:

“My grandmother was not a highly educated woman, but she told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals. You know why? Because they breed,” Bauer said during a speech advocating that the government take away assistance to those who do not pass drug tests.

“You’re facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a person ample food supply,” Bauer added, according to a report in the Greenville News. “They will reproduce, especially ones that don’t think too much further than that. And so what you’ve got to do is you’ve got to curtail that type of behavior. They don’t know any better.”

Bauer, who grew up in a working-class family, said parents whose children receive free, or subsidized, lunches at school should stop receiving government benefits if they do not attend parent-teacher conferences.

Omarion will join JC Chasez and Lil Mama as the third judge on the show's upcoming fifth season, beginning at the end of January. Hope For Haiti - Wyclef Jean Performance

I was home watching this wonderful event Friday night before I went to the barbershop. As I watch the evening's performances, my heart was heavy for the people of Haiti. Then came Wyclef Jean's performance and did he stand up, well let's just say this song had made my heart jumping along with the chorus and the heavy feel was removed. I turned the surround sound on full blast and dance as if I was on Eastern Parkway at the West Indian Parade. Donate somewhere people.

Debating Affirmative Action-MSNBC Broadcasts Live from Texas Southern University

Affirmative Action is needed in America. Affirmative Action is simply providing the minority with an opportunity as the majority. When considering a school admittance or job placement, the first thing the applicant is before discussing race or gender is qualified. Affirmative Action helped America moved forward and we have Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas or Republican Leslie Sanchez as proof of the forward thinking. Regardless if they don’t think Affirmative Action didn’t play a role in their lives.

White House Adviser Valerie Jarrett 'Speechless' Over Pat Robertson's Haiti Comment - ABC News

I don’t care if this guy is in the ministry. I don’t care about this guy’s title. He puts his pants on one leg at a time just like I do. Therefore, he is entitled to get whatever responses he gets. This is why I hold the words, “Too much of anything makes you an addict” very close. Religion is very personal in my opinion and it’s idiots like this that have a following, because their followers have too much religion and are unable to think for themselves.

This guy is not a spokesperson for God as many people in the ministry think. Religion is a faith or another word, belief. If there is faith and belief involved, then that means there are no correct answers when it comes to religion. Reason is because nothing is factual and it deals totally with faith and belief. This guy is an idiot, jerk, stupid, moron, and any other adjective you want to call him. He’s entitled to it. This is not a man of God and this is America, so you have the freedom to believe in any idiot you want, but this should be the final pull on the plug for this guy, but it won’t.

He’ll still go on fronting on television like he is so holy, but in actuality, well, this is America and if you want to believe in this clown, then the choice is yours. Click the link below to view his comments on ABC.

American Idol - Larry Platt - Pants On The Ground

His performance was a joke, but his message was very clear, "You're looking like a fool with your pants on the ground". His song should make the younger generation of this Hip Hop era, take a look at themselves. I appreciate Larry Platt for his effort and his message and I hope I can move like him at 62. This was comedy and entertaining. If you didn't catch this last night enjoy and laugh.

Atlanta-Usher Car Gets Broken Into and Thieves Get $50K Worth of Furs

According to an Atlanta police report, Usher is claiming his car was broken into and several items were missing, including an array of Christmas gifts and personal belongings. He claims that among the stolen items were $50,000 worth of furs, a computer and more than a million dollars worth of jewelry, which he happened to have in his care at the time. An AT&T employee says that she witnessed the crime taking place, but she refused to comment further to reporters. My question is, why was so much left inside of a car?

New York Hip-Hop Artists Leap from YouTube to McDonald's Pitch Men

A couple of months ago, aspiring rapper Christopher Dupree and violinist Joya Morris made a video with Dollar Van Demo, an outfit that transforms a NYC dollar van ride into rolling recording studio. If you aren't hip to the Dollar Van Demos, then YouTube it and check out some raw footage of talent from the NYC area. From the Dollar Van Demo that aired on YouTube, both were given an opportunity to make the new McDonalds commercial. These young kids seem to be what Hip Hop is all about-having a dream and working on it. Joya is from my hometown of Laurelton, Queens and besides being an aspiring talent, she is also a college graduate. ST wishes both Chris and Joya the best in their upcoming endeavors and much success. Check out the link below for the complete story and video footage.

Beck's Quote "African-American is a bogus, PC, made-up term. I mean, that's not a race"

I don't know any other way to say what I want to say, except to say it. If you are not Black, African-American, Negro or any other term used for people of color, then I think you shouldn't say anything at all. Glenn Beck not being an African-American and shouldn't worry about how African-Americans are classified.

Reason, Glenn Beck has no idea what it is to be black. He has no idea because his ancestors choose to come to America. He has no idea about being denied equal rights, being stripped of his culture, and being in a country where your people contributed so much to it, but at the same time get treated as a second citizen.

I’ll say it again; Glenn Beck has no idea about being Black, African-American, or Negro. His ignorance was displayed during this video and it makes me wonder if the underline reason for FOX News surpassing CNN is due to the public viewing FOX for ignorance.

Time and time again, ignorance is displayed on FOX News and the next day news and blog outlets are watching or listening in disbelief. It seems like some people would go to the bottom for ratings and border a racist comment. Glenn Beck comfortable position as he speaks ignorantly about African-American is disturbing, because this dude knows not of what he speaks.

The NBA Drops the Hammer on Arenas

So it's a done deal. The NBA has finally dropped down their hammer and finally suspended Gilbert Arenas indefinitely. Reports are saying that this incident in the picture (Arenas is in the middle with fingers in the gun fire position) was the last draw to irk David Stern. My question to Gilbert is, "Did you ever hear of a guy name Plaxico?" This is going to be a tough lesson for Gilbert and soon he will see all of his mistakes. I wish him well, because he's going to need it.

HS Coach Defends His Decision on 170-35 Win

I saw this same team play last year, because all the players returned from their State of Texas Championship. This team is one of the top HS teams in the country. When a person looks at the score the naked eye sees a mean blowout. But Yates HS head Coach explains his position. Could there have been a better act of sportsmanship? I’m pretty sure, but there isn’t a mercy rule in their conference. With players like Joseph Young the senior SG and heading to the Big East to play at Providence and Brandon Peters who is also a senior guard and have verbal commitment to Western Kentucky, this is no easy win for any high school team in the country. Some polls have this team #1 in the country. With all said and done, this too shall pass and these players will go on to have great careers and my prayers are with both teams for the students personal success.

Jayson Williams Involved in DUI Incident

Here we go again. Early reports are stating that Jayson Williams was found this morning with his SUV crashed into a tree in lower Manhattan and Jayson refused an alcohol test. The NY native, St. John's star, NBA player seems to find trouble as if it were his middle name. All his basketball achievements won't be remembered by the average fan. Sadly when we hear his name, we quickly associate him with the accidental shooting of his limo driver now this. It's hard to root for this guy anymore though I wish him luck. Mos Def featuring Talib Kweli-New 'History' Video

This has to be one of my favorite cuts off of Mos Def's Ecstatic album. If you are a person who loves lyrics and lyrical play, then this is a song where the wordplay of two great wordsmiths hits the ears and makes a fan go, 'Ah, what a refreshment'.

Cheyney Uses Foiled Airplane Attack as an Opportunity to Attack Obama

Now I asked this question before, “Why this guy Dick Cheyney thinks it is okay for him to speak on every little thing that our current commander-in-chief does?” I mean everything. You know that there are problems in the Republican Party, when a former vice president has the party’s strongest voice. Even though he has the strongest voice, he voice screams, ‘DIVIDE’!

Let’s just go back to our commander-in-chief’s inauguration ceremony in the beginning of last year. I don’t know if any of you recognized or noticed Dick Cheyney’s actions. Remember this dude was in a wheelchair and claimed he was too sick to shake the new commander-in-chief’s hand. The country thought he was ill. Now if you ask me that was the start of his divisive behavior towards our new president.

Listen, Dick Cheyney is the noun of his first name. He was a VICE PRESIDENT. There has never been an ex-vice president in American history that has a louder voice than Cheyney. Our country almost had another attack, because of a Nigerian terrorist heading to America aboard a flight from abroad. This was a very close call and America was spared another attack from terrorist, but Dick uses this incident as opportunity to attack the Obama administration. Dick was quoted with the following:

“As I've watched the events of the last few days, it is clear once again that President Obama is trying to pretend we are not at war. He seems to think that if he has a low-key response to blow up an airliner ...we won't be at war."

First let’s talk about “Low Key” responses. A ‘Low-Key’ response was that of our former president when the World Trade Center was attacked. Do we remember the ‘Low Key’ response from Bush? I remember Bush had to finish reading a story to the precious children he was reading a book too. Somehow Dick thinks, because Democrats are in the White House, then that’s why America is being attacked. Somehow Obama’s response to a matter that was stopped and not carried all the way through was not ‘prompt’ enough or ‘tough’ enough. Somehow Dick believes if the Republicans were in office, this wouldn’t have happened.

Newsflash Dick, THIS IS NOT A PARTY PROBLEM! Dick you are doing what Obama asked of our country not to do, and that’s division. Dick wants our country divided and is doing everything in his power to grow the divide. Didn’t 9/11 happen on his watch? Didn’t the last administration put this country into this financial fix that we are in now? Wasn’t the war started with the country’s previous administration, because Bush and Dick were so sure that WMDs (weapons of mass destruction) would be found?

Come on Son, stop it. Stop trying to keep this country divided when we need more than ever to come together. Stop looking for every opportunity to politically attack this administration. Besides isn’t it funny how Dick and his team were in charge during these issues, so why is he speaking so loud like his administration did anything better. My suggestion to the ex vice pres, SHUT UP DUDE!!!! America doesn’t care about your feelings, comments, or concerns. We didn’t vote you to be our commander-in-chief. We have our commander-in-chief and his first year was one for the record books as he had more on his plate in the beginning of a term, than any other president in American history. Our country has experienced more hatred towards us, because of our previous administration. This is not a democrat problem Dick, this is an American problem. Either get on board or get off, because your narrow-minded thinking will not unify our country the way we need to be unified.

Arenas and Crittenton of the Washington Wizards Pull Guns in Dispute

Washington Wizards teammates Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton drew guns on each other during a Christmas Eve locker room argument over a gambling debt, according to The New York Post. My question is why are these millionaires pulling guns out on each other? Do they think they are on the street somewhere?

Allegedly Arenas didn't want to pay Crittenton some money from a bet they had. What kind of bet, we don't know, but when Crittenton asked Arenas it is reported he got upset, and then grabbed a gun in his locker. Crittenton then went to his locker to brandish a gun to show Arenas he also has a gun. Hey Gilbert if you want to be the street dude then listen up. When you gamble on the street and don't pay we call that 'Ass Betting'. What does that mean? Well that means if you don't pay, then that's your ass. Don't gamble if you don't want to pay.

Although I admire Crittenton standing up to Arenas, I still think both of these guys are idiots. Newsflash gentlemen, you're not on the street. Let's act like professionals here. At the moment, no fines or disciplinary action has been taken by the NBA, but we're waiting to see how the NBA handles this.
