If you didn't know who
Esperanza Spalding was until last night when she beat out
Drake and
Justin Bieber for Best New Artist, well now you know. Spalding has been on the underground scene for sometime now. Her album
Chamber Music Society
was a definite underground banger for the fans of real music. This talented vocalist and musician is a Portland native and a student of music. So much so that she taught music at the prestigious
Berklee College of Music. This is an award that surprised many, even myself, but it was well deserved. Congrats and we look forward to some more music coming from Esperanza.
