Jean Grae - "R.I.P." feat. Styles P & Talib Kweli (Video)

Seems like Jean Grae is putting the final touches on her Cookies or Coma Mixtape and her album, Cake or Death. Here is Grae's video for "R.I.P." (Rockit In daPocket) and its some concert footage which is a good look for this song. It's a simple concept, but it works. Styles' and Kweli's complement this video and is a perfect fit for Jean Greasy's style.

Von Pea (of Tanya Morgan) Releases- "Grand(er) Vonye" Mixtape

Von Pea of Tanya Morgan just released some good music he just had sitting around. Von Pea said of the Grand(er) Vonye mixtape:
Remixed by me 4 years ago...I'd recorded the original "Grand Vonye" over a bunch of Kanye beats but then decided to do it with my own. I started on April 20th, 2007 around 7pm and finished on April 21st, 2007 around 7pm. I did this for fun back then and never released it because it was done so quick, but since it still sounds good to me here it is.

Grab the 'name your price' mixtape (here).

Rest In Peace “Left Eye”

Today is the day that Hip Hop lost Lisa Nicole Lopes (May 27, 1971-April 25, 2002) better known as Left Eye and 1/3 of the Hip Hop/R&B girl group, TLC. Left Eye contributed her own written rhymes to many of TLC's hit singles like, "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg", "What About Your Friends", and my personal TLC favorite, "Waterfalls" just to name a few. Left Eye was a beautiful woman and she is truly missed. Rest In Peace sister.

A Year Ago Hip Hop Lost G.U.R.U.

A year ago from today Hip Hop lost one of its favorite people for the culture of Hip Hop, Keith Elam aka G.U.R.U. He was a poet who just happens to rap, he was a Morehouse Man, and his wordplay can be compared to some of the best in the business. He wasn't the first rapper to infuse the genre of Jazz into his music, but he was one of the best Hip Hop artist to ever to incorporate the genre of Jazz into his music. The same way he became a student of rhyme, Hip Hop, and its culture, he became the same student when it came to Jazz music. He studied and sat down with some of the living legends from the genre before he came up with his Jazzamatazz series that pushed Hip Hop into the history and culture of Jazz. No one combined these two music forms better. Its because of that and his wordplay, that he will always be remembered. Rest In Power Keith Elam/G.U.R.U.  My favorite Jazzmatazz joint below. Two of my favorite music artist together.

Video of NC Tornado Tearing Through Shaw University

I have a sister who recently relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina a little over two years ago. She's the primary caretaker of my mother, so my mother has since moved to NC, but still calls NY home. I called my sister yesterday after the storm and I thanked the heavens that, her nor my mother was injured in any way and to top it off, her property wasn't damaged, but some of her nearby neighbors properties didn't make it through the storm.

I also have a neice who relocated form NYC to Raleigh, NC back in 2000 and a tree fell on her front lawn and would have hit her car if she would have parked where she usually does.

When a natural disater hits, it affects a whole community no matter what race, creed, color, or salray rage, a natural disaster affects us all.

I want to THANK GOD for sparing my mother and sister and I want those affected by this storm to know, MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU.

Here is footage of the damaged done to Shaw University. The video was taken by Shaw University students. Shaw University may have to shut down for at least a year. The school and its pride was on a rise as the Mens and Womens Basketball Teams both are currentt CIAA Tournament Champs. My prayers are with the students of Shaw University and the school family.
