It was the summer before I was to enter the 5th grade. A couple of friends and myself were on Jamaica Ave shopping for some sneakers. We were nearing the corner of 168th Street when a white van rolled up and asked up if we wanted to make some money assisting them with crates of records. We said, "Of Course" and before we knew it, we went to about 20 record stores throughout the city carrying crates of Sugar Hill Records from the van to the record stores. What I will always remember as a kid, is hearing all the older kids and young adults who work for 'The Boss' aka 'Syl', always saying good things about her. Though this 'job' of mines only lasted a couple of days, it was the best job I've ever had. I never knew I was a small part of Hip Hop history.
Sylvia Robinson, 'The Mother' of this thing we call Hip Hop passed away today. The singer, songwriter, and record producer started the infamous Sugar Hill Records and was the brain behind putting a bunch of kids rhyming on vinyl. Because of her vision, "Rapper's Delight" came to an urban radio station everywhere and a music revolution began. Rest In Power, 'Syl'. Read more (here).
Anthony Hamilton have hit the net over the past few months as he continues to work on his new album. Now we get our hands on another single from the North Carolina Crooner, but this time around its not Jilly from Philly assisting him on the vocals, but rather his real-life wife, Tarsha McMillian. This husband and wife collabo is entitled, "I Hurt You" and you can give it a listen here. Anthony Hamilton's album is expected to drop near the end of the year or early next year. Listen to Anthony's last internet leak (here).

Facebook groups that I'm in and I just had to share. The question asked to Muhammad Ali, "Would you like to be president?". Ali responds, "No!" and explains his reasons why. Ali was always an outspoken man and after hearing this clip, one has to wonder, "Is this ship sinking?".

Cappadonna's forthcoming project, The Pilgrimage, which is set to drop this fall. Wu-Tang forever.
Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol became involved in a vicious slanging match in a bar in West Hollywood after a man started heckling her and insulting her mother while she was riding a mechanical bull. The whole thing starts when the heckler asks Bristol, "Did Levi ride it like that?"-referring to Levi Johnson, the father of their child Trip. Bristol gets a little gangster. LOL!!

Troy Davis case. Georgia not only executed a Black Man the night before last without any substantial evidence, but the state of Georgia's parole board granted this convicted killer, Samuel David Crowe clemency. Do you see what color he is? And people wonder why race relations in this country aren't getting any better. If you think race doesn't matter in this country, then you are kidding yourself. Read more about this disgusting matter (here).

Elizabeth Warren is causing a stir across the internet with this small clip about her discussing the debt crisis, fair taxation, and other important issues as part of her tour. What's interesting here is when she talks about fair taxation. Its nothing new, its been said before, but somehow when a Republican candidate says the same thing it somehow gets attention. How anyone making less than $100k annually can vote Republican and support tax breaks for the wealthy is beyond me.
TroyDavis trends on the Twitter, because there was a sign of hope. Then his death became official and I began to feel sick. I went to Facebook to see what the people were talking about, but along with grief, there were plenty of 'hateful' things posted about this case. Opinions aside, as a modern day society, we can not think it is okay to execute someone when there is 'doubt' and FACT is there was some 'doubts' in this case. The biggest being the 7 out of 9 witnesses who said they were force, coerced, or mis-lead 22 years ago. 7 out of 9 means there is 'DOUBT'. This is why I've never been a supporter of The Death Penalty. Its NEVER been fair and just in this country and because of it, its old and outdated. I'm not the only one who feels like this, former president Jimmy Carter has similar feelings. Check out what former President Jimmy Cater has to say about this law (here).

Eric Roberson gives us another visual from his forthcoming album, Mr. Nice Guy, which is set to drop next month. "Picture Perfect" is that song that you can play in the car with your significant other on the way to the store or for a Sunday afternoon cruise. The black and white visual captures the title of this cut and to have the film tape in this video was an excellent idea and that credit goes to the video Directors, Jay Espinal and Derrick Savage. Gotta love Phonte's two-step. LOL!! Pre-order Mr. Nice Guy (here). Grab your download of this single (here).
TMZ aired footage of this infamous fight between Ray J and Fabolous. Although, we don't see too much, one thing is clear, 50 Cent was right in the middle of it enjoying the moment. Have a feeling he probably gassed up Ray J as 50 is known to be an instigator. Hear both speak about incident (here).

Mac Miller bandwagon (but I was impressed with the kid when he got on that Rapsody joint here) and in my opinion the kid could use a little more artist grooming. However, when this arrived in my inbox, the title caught me, because Willie Dynamite is one of my favorite Black-exploitation films. Seriously, I can quote most of the movie verbatim. Since this is one of my favorite movies, I gave this track a listen and to tell the truth, its not bad. Its actually a good song. Of course I love the movie samples, but Mac impressed me with his delivery, flow, and chorus on this one.
Eric Roberson stopped by the office of Essence Magazine and performed his trademark of taking words from the audience and coming up with an on the spot song. The ladies at Essence seem to really enjoy their up close and personal show. This should hold us over until we get Mr. Nice Guy, which drops October 25th. The two previews we've gotten off the album, "Picture Perfect" and "Summertime Anthem" and should serve as an Appetizer until we get full meal. Get your pre-order for Mr. Nice Guy (here).
Bowie State University student, Alexis Simpson, who is accused of killing her roommate, Dominique Frazier, is claiming his client acted in self-defense. Now whether this is true or not, it doesn't change the outcome that two bright college students lives have changed. One is dead and her family is in mourning and the other is facing murder charges. The incident allegedly started over music being played loudly from an iPod, but who knows what really happened?
Regardless of the 663,000 people that signed a petition presented to the Georgia state parole board, numerous dignitaries such as former President Jimmy Carter, Pope Benedict XVI, former FBI Director William Sessions, former Georgia Supreme Court Justice Norman Flectcher and Larry Thompson, the former deputy US attorney general, and Bishop Demond Tutu, the Georgia state parole board has denied clemency for Troy Davis. Troy Davis, 42, is scheduled to be put to death by lethal injection tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the state prison in Jackson.
Fabolous calls into NYC's The Breakfast Club radio show and responds to Ray J's earlier call (here). Fab explains his side of the story and calls Ray J. "Little Red Ridding Hood", calls Ray J's call funny, and says Ray is shouting out a bunch of lies. All of this over a Twitter beef. Look don't judge ST, we're just reporting.

It appears Marsha Ambrosius had some music sitting around under her bed, so she decided to clean up and share it with her fans. The first joint above is, "Have Your Way", which is most definitely grown folks late night 'baby making' music. the second song below is "I Wanna Touch" and let me say that the production work is awesome. Marsha's sultry voice is heard over a flipped Stevie Wonder classic, "Rocket Love". Just like Marsha to give us something to hold on to for the moment. Grab Marsha's Late Nights & Early Mornings (here) if you haven't gotten it already.
Now isn't that the truth in today's industry? The 27th of this month is going to be crazy. Don't know who's album I'm going to get first, Phonte's or 9th Wonder's. Feels like an unofficial Little Brother reunion. Here is another preview from Phonte's forthcoming project Charity Starts At Home with 9th on the boards. Straight Hip Hop. Dope beats, dope rhymes. Also check out the last leak from this project (here).
Fabolous and Ray J got beef. Apparently the beef started from Fabolous cracking jokes aka 'taking shots' at Ray Jon Twitter. Well apparently both were in Vegas at The Palms Hotel for the fight this weekend and had a fight of their own or some type of beef. Now weather anyone was hurt, smacked up, I don't know, I don't know, but Ray j called into NYC's The Breakfast Club Radio Show this morning to make a statement. **Warning** Ray uses some profanity. Hopefully this beef can be squashed and no one gets hurt. Just for the record, I'm so tired of Twitter beefs. They are getting played out quick. Read more about the weekend's incident (here). update: Fabolous' response (here).

"Now back to blowing holes in the microphone pole. I do it eazy, with 41 years in my soul."-Raekwon.
They call Rae the Chef, because he cooks up some sh*t, but when 9th is in the kitchen with you, you just may come out of the kitchen with a classic. 9th is know for his sick beats and this one may be one of his best and I guess that's why Rae had to let loose with the bullets of lyrics. Now I f*cks with Big Remo, but in all honesty after hearing Rae on this joint I think Remo should have lead off the flow, then pass the baton to Rae for the final lyrical laps. I don't think anyone should have touched the mic after Rae on this joint. 9th's The Wonder Years is set to drop on the 27th (pre-order here). If you missed the other premiered tracks from this 9th project you can check those out (here) and (here).

Slice of Spice is putting out a previously unreleased track by LL Cool J and producer K-Def. The track was made back in 1994 and somewhere along the line of LL closet of singles, this particular got lost or was forgotten about. Here's the story behind this lost track:SSR-005: Year Of The Hip Hop (Vocal) - K-Def ft. LL Cool J by Slice-of-Spice
Back in 1994 K-Def was working on some beats out of the B Room in Marly Marl’s House Of Hits when LL Cool J walked in on his session and said “let’s make some tracks together”. Uncle L had always wanted to rhyme on a track using the famous ESG breakbeat ‘UFO’, so he had Def lay it down with some scratches and then went to town with the mic. Both thought they had a sure fire hit on their hands but unfortunately it was never used.

Troy Davis it makes one wonder, why isn't a peep coming from The White House? If Jimmy Carter, Pope Benedict XVI, and Nobel laureate Desmond Tutu are speaking out about the planned execution of Troy Davis, then where is President Obama's voice? Where is Vice President Joe Biden's voice? Shouldn't The White House have an interest in this case? I'm just a confused voter who is wondering why The Supreme Court or the White House mention anything about Davis' clemency. This case has the WORLD watching our government stand still. Read more (here).
Bowie State University last night, one pulled out a knife, stabbed the other killing her, and now she is facing charges. Although details are still skeptical about what started the argument, the Twitter world had all type of rumors floating around as to why the two got into an argument. From rumors about a stolen iPod or iPad to arguing over a boy. Regardless as to why the two females had a disagreement, one is no longer with her family and it is a sad day at Bowie and the HBCU nation. Our thoughts and prayers are with BOTH families. Read more (here).
Ron Artest said this summer he was thinking about changing his name and after putting some thought to it, the Queensbridge representative will make it official today during a press conference. The ball player formerly know as ARTEST, will change his name to 'Metta World Peace'. 'Metta' is his official first name, which in Buddhist tradition means-loving-kindness and friendliness toward others and his last name will be 'World Peace'. You can't make this stuff up folks. Read more (here).
I'm just the reporter baby, you can be the news. With that said, I'm just posting this because, its out there and it has the streets talking. Oh well. here goes.

What do you get when you put together afrobeat legend Fela Kuti and rap pioneers De La Soul? You get Fela Soul; a musical tapestry created by Gummy Soul artist Amerigo Gazaway. More than just a clever title, Fela Soul is an 8-track, 33 minute journey into the world of afrobeat rhythms, funky horn riffs, and classic hip-hop gems. Using dozens of hand-picked samples from the Nigerian instrumentalist and political figure Fela Kuti, and 8 carefully-chosen acapellas from the Native Tongue rap trio De La Soul, Amerigo seamlessly intertwines the two into something completely new and original. Download the entire album for free, along with liner notes and album (here)
Peter Hadar and his band Indie Movie performs LIVE for the New Jersey Performing Arts Center's Sounds of The City Summer Concert Series. When you watch the video, you can see the Jersey really enjoying one of their own's musical talents.
Now Bilal is one of ST's favorites. Her is some footage of his recent tour when it hit Indianapolis' Madame Walker Theater this past August. Bilal performs 8 of his classic songs on this video clip. Fr4om "Something To Hold On To" to "Fast Lane" and even has time to give a J Dilla (RIP) shout out when he performs "Reminisce". Those who missed out on this summer's tour missed a treat. Also if you haven't heard Bilal's re-mix of "The Dollar" you can listen and download (here).
Christina Elizabeth, lost her cell phone and her private messages were lost. Well in her private messages and photos to Swizz Beatz hit the net and left Swizz and his wife Alicia Keys denying allegations. Anyhow, if you care, Christina released a statement. Read more (here).

Estelle's single, "Break My Heart" was already a banger, but now there's a re-mix and a re-mix to the re-mix. Now if that haven't mixed you up any, then do believe that both of these remixes are the joint. The first remix features, Swizz, Jada, and Busta and the re-mix two features Swizz, Raekwon, and the UK's own Wretch32. Listen to both below and sure you will agree, these joints are dope.

American Candy and they call it, "Get Some Black Friends". This song will make you laugh and most importantly will make one think. When I first heard it, I had to chuckle. How many Black people find themselves having friends who are white, but you are their only Black friend? Give this song a listen, read the lyrics in the video, laugh, and then share the with a friend. You can also download this song (here) from iTunes.

'Love is a Battlefield' as Pat Benatar once said and here Cee-Lo Green tells his tale of a broken promise of love. Cee Lo creative mind and energy is felt on this track and when I hear, my mind immediately wants a visual to accompany this track. After seeing the, "F*ck You" visual, one can only imagine what Cee Lo and his creative mind has for this track.
When I saw this State Farm commercial yesterday during the games, I got goose bumps. One of my college friends even posted on my FB page, "After seeing that State farm commercial, it kinda makes me wish I was from New York". I think every New Yorker who saw this commercial yesterday almost dropped a tear. I know I almost did. Shouts out to Spike Lee who directed the commercial to give it that NY feel.
Elzhi's Elmatic project, than I'm sure your ears gravitated to the sound outputs in awe of the live instrumentals to a classic Hip Hop joint. If I just described you, then you are not alone as the Will Sessions Band who accompanied Elzhi on the project are in heavy demand for an instrumental album. So when there's a demand, you got to give the people what they want. Here is the first single off of the project which is set to drop later on this month. We'll keep you posted as to when it drops.
Serena Williams blew up 'again' at an official during her match at the U.S. Open yesterday. This is just the spirit of a competitive athlete. Was she right? Well, you're never right when you loose control of your emotions. However, the same way we see coaches and baseball managers argue a call, to me it was just a discussion of disagreements. But this is tennis and in tennis, that behavior is shunned upon unlike other sports where disagreements are visually displayed. Maybe tennis should allow 'small' outbursts, just may make the game more interesting. Could you imagine if it was a clay court and Serena tried kicking clay on the official the way managers do it in baseball, that would be classic.

9th Wonder's about to release his next project, The Wonder Years and this is the first leak off the joint. The track features Phonte (Gotta love this reunion) and Median.
