Dream Hampton Premieres Black August:A Hip-Hop Benefit Concert

This event takes place this Thursday 8/28 and will feature exclusive interviews with exiled activists Assata Shakur (her self-titled book I consider a must read), former Black Panther Kathleen Cleaver, political prisoner Mutulu Shakur and others. Dream Hampton will premiere her film Black August: A Hip-Hop Benefit Concert, which documents the movement behind the annual event of the nonprofit Malcolm X Grassroots Movement has produced, for more than a decade, to raise awareness about and support the political prisoners in the U.S. The film highlights performances in New York, Cuba and South Africa featuring Mos Def, dead prez, Talib Kweli, David Banner, Common, Erikah Badu, and others.
