Texas Cheerleader Who Refused to Cheer for Her Alleged Rapist is Taking Her Case to The Supreme Court

Now this is Crazy!! Sports is bigger than the state itself in Texas. In 2008 a 16-year-old cheerleader in Silsbee, Texas says she was raped by an athlete at a party. The suspect, identified as Rakheem Bolton, eventually pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and received a suspended sentence. The two continued to attend high school together.

Then in February, the girl was cheering at a basketball game when Bolton took to the free throw line. While the rest of her squad cheered, she chose to sit out. She was then kicked off the team.

The girl and her parents sued the school district claiming she was just exercising her right to freedom of speech, but a federal judge dismissed the suit calling her a "mouthpiece" for the school with no right to remain silent in protest. The federal court also ruled the suit was frivolous and the girl's family is responsible for reimbursing the school district over $45,000 in legal fees. Yep, get raped, take a stand, and pay $45K in legal fees.

Now the parents are taking their case to the supreme court. I expect the school district to pay out big for this mistake. ST will keep you posted. Read more (
