'The Mother of Hip-Hop’ -Sylvia Robinson Dies at 75

It was the summer before I was to enter the 5th grade. A couple of friends and myself were on Jamaica Ave shopping for some sneakers. We were nearing the corner of 168th Street when a white van rolled up and asked up if we wanted to make some money assisting them with crates of records. We said, "Of Course" and before we knew it, we went to about 20 record stores throughout the city carrying crates of Sugar Hill Records from the van to the record stores. What I will always remember as a kid, is hearing all the older kids and young adults who work for 'The Boss' aka 'Syl', always saying good things about her. Though this 'job' of mines only lasted a couple of days, it was the best job I've ever had. I never knew I was a small part of Hip Hop history.

Sylvia Robinson, 'The Mother' of this thing we call Hip Hop passed away today. The singer, songwriter, and record producer started the infamous Sugar Hill Records and was the brain behind putting a bunch of kids rhyming on vinyl. Because of her vision, "Rapper's Delight" came to an urban radio station everywhere and a music revolution began. Rest In Power, 'Syl'. Read more (here).

Some tracks from Anthony Hamilton have hit the net over the past few months as he continues to work on his new album. This husband and wife collabo is entitled, "I Hurt You" and you can give it a listen here. Anthony Hamilton's album is expected to drop near the end of the year or early next year. Muhammad Ali On The First Black President

I came across this video in one of the Facebook groups that I'm in and I just had to share. The question asked to Muhammad Ali, "Would you like to be president?". Ali responds, "No!" and explains his reasons why. Ali was always an outspoken man and after hearing this clip, one has to wonder, "Is this ship sinking?".

Lauryn Hill Being Sued for Allegedly Stealing Clothes from 2007 European Tour

Sometimes designers 'lend' musicians, actors, people on television clothes, so the brand could get promoted. I don't think Lauryn Hill 'stole' these clothes as alleged, but I do believe this was a big mis-communication. Read more (here).

New Wu Music, Cappadonna – "Cuban Link Kings"

When you have a busy weekend of football games to attend and watch, one tends to ignore all the alerts mailbox alerts on the Blackberry. However, I was surprised to see this joint. Something new off of Cappadonna's forthcoming project, The Pilgrimage, which is set to drop this fall. Wu-Tang forever.

Sarah Palin's Daughter Bristol Palin Attacked By Heckler- "Your Mother's A Whore"

Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol became involved in a vicious slanging match in a bar in West Hollywood after a man started heckling her and insulting her mother while she was riding a mechanical bull. The whole thing starts when the heckler asks Bristol, "Did Levi ride it like that?"-referring to Levi Johnson, the father of their child Trip. Bristol gets a little gangster. LOL!!

WOW!! Georgia Gives This Killer Clemency

Now this just made my stomach sick. I was already feeling disrespected by our government and our Supreme Court for not intervening in the Troy Davis case. Georgia not only executed a Black Man the night before last without any substantial evidence, but the state of Georgia's parole board granted this convicted killer, Samuel David Crowe clemency. Do you see what color he is? And people wonder why race relations in this country aren't getting any better. If you think race doesn't matter in this country, then you are kidding yourself. Read more about this disgusting matter (here).

Elizabeth Warren on Debt Crisis and Fair Taxation

Massachusetts Republican Senate Candidate and former advisor for the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection,  Bureau, Elizabeth Warren is causing a stir across the internet with this small clip about her discussing the debt crisis, fair taxation, and other important issues as part of her tour. What's interesting here is when she talks about fair taxation. Its nothing new, its been said before, but somehow when a Republican candidate says the same thing it somehow gets attention. How anyone making less than $100k annually can vote Republican and support tax breaks for the wealthy is beyond me.

Former President Jimmy Carter Says "Death Penalty is Unjust and Outdated'"

I had a long night. I watched what was going on in Jackson, Georgia last night, until I couldn't take the television anymore. I then started to follow the #TroyDavis trends on the Twitter, because there was a sign of hope. Then his death became official and I began to feel sick. I went to Facebook to see what the people were talking about, but along with grief, there were plenty of 'hateful' things posted about this case. Opinions aside, as a modern day society, we can not think it is okay to execute someone when there is 'doubt' and FACT is there was some 'doubts' in this case. The biggest being the 7 out of 9 witnesses who said they were force, coerced, or mis-lead 22 years ago. 7 out of 9 means there is 'DOUBT'. This is why I've never been a supporter of The Death Penalty. Its NEVER been fair and just in this country and because of it, its old and outdated. I'm not the only one who feels like this, former president Jimmy Carter has similar feelings. Check out what former President Jimmy Cater has to say about this law (here).

Let Troy Davis Take A Lie Detector Test

Troy Davis is making a last effort to save his life and says he's willing to take a lie detector test. His lawyers stated they will take the test, only if the results are taken into consideration. Troy Davis' execution is set for this evening at 7pm, unless a stay is granted. Read more (here).

New Eric Roberson Video- "Picture Perfect" feat. Phonte'

Our boy Eric Roberson gives us another visual from his forthcoming album, Mr. Nice Guy, which is set to drop next month. "Picture Perfect" is that song that you can play in the car with your significant other on the way to the store or for a Sunday afternoon cruise. The black and white visual captures the title of this cut and to have the film tape in this video was an excellent idea and that credit goes to the video Directors, Jay Espinal and Derrick Savage. Gotta love Phonte's two-step. LOL!! Pre-order Mr. Nice Guy (here). Grab your download of this single (here).

TMZ Footage of Infamous Ray J and Fabolous Fight

video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player
Last night TMZ aired footage of this infamous fight between Ray J and Fabolous. Although, we don't see too much, one thing is clear, 50 Cent was right in the middle of it enjoying the moment. Have a feeling he probably gassed up Ray J as 50 is known to be an instigator. Hear both speak about incident (here).

Mac Miller- "Willie Dynamite"

Let me say this, I'm not on the Mac Miller bandwagon (but I was impressed with the kid when he got on that Rapsody joint here) and in my opinion the kid could use a little more artist grooming. However, when this arrived in my inbox, the title caught me, because Willie Dynamite is one of my favorite Black-exploitation films. Seriously, I can quote most of the movie verbatim. Since this is one of my favorite movies, I gave this track a listen and to tell the truth, its not bad. Its actually a good song. Of course I love the movie samples, but Mac impressed me with his delivery, flow, and chorus on this one.

Meet This 15-Year-Old Morehouse Man

ST informed you last year (here) about Stephen Stafford, the teenage Morehouse College student. Well he is now a junior and still taking on three majors, and was recently interviewed on Sacramento's KCRA about being a keynote speaker for an event. Always good to hear a 'feel good' story.

Eric Roberson Visits and Performs @ Office of Essence Magazine

Last month Eric Roberson stopped by the office of Essence Magazine and performed his trademark of taking words from the audience and coming up with an on the spot song. The ladies at Essence seem to really enjoy their up close and personal show. This should hold us over until we get Mr. Nice Guy, which drops October 25th. The two previews we've gotten off the album, "Picture Perfect" and "Summertime Anthem" and should serve as an Appetizer until we get full meal. Get your pre-order for Mr. Nice Guy (here).

Bowie State Student Alexis Simpson Acted in Self Defense, Lawyer Says

The lawyer for the Bowie State University student, Alexis Simpson, who is accused of killing her roommate, Dominique Frazier, is claiming his client acted in self-defense. Now whether this is true or not, it doesn't change the outcome that two bright college students lives have changed. One is dead and her family is in mourning and the other is facing murder charges. The incident allegedly started over music being played loudly from an iPod, but who knows what really happened?

Georgia's Parole Board Denies Clemency for Troy Davis

Regardless of the 663,000 people that signed a petition presented to the Georgia state parole board, numerous dignitaries such as former President Jimmy Carter, Pope Benedict XVI, former FBI Director William Sessions, former Georgia Supreme Court Justice Norman Flectcher and Larry Thompson, the former deputy US attorney general, and Bishop Demond Tutu, the Georgia state parole board has denied clemency for Troy Davis. Troy Davis, 42, is scheduled to be put to death by lethal injection tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the state prison in Jackson.
Regardless if three former case witnesses are now testifying on Davis' behalf and have signed affidavits asking the board to spare Davis from execution, the board still wants to proceed. The slain cops family wants to proceed, so they can have closure. However, this case has serious doubts and serious questions and no government should be able to take a life when there is doubt in the findings. Executing Davis won't bring the slain officer's family closure. He's not getting out of jail, just his life spared, so why is Georgia's parole board so determined to take Davis' life? Read more (here).

Fabolous Responds to Ray J's Claims

This comedy gets funnier and funnier. Fabolous calls into NYC's The Breakfast Club radio show and responds to Ray J's earlier call (here). Fab explains his side of the story and calls Ray J. "Little Red Ridding Hood", calls Ray J's call funny, and says Ray is shouting out a bunch of lies. All of this over a Twitter beef. Look don't judge ST, we're just reporting.

New Marsha Ambrosius Cuts- “Have Your Way” & “I Wanna Touch”

It appears Marsha Ambrosius had some music sitting around under her bed, so she decided to clean up and share it with her fans. The first joint above is, "Have Your Way", which is most definitely grown folks late night 'baby making' music. the second song below is "I Wanna Touch" and let me say that the production work is awesome. Marsha's sultry voice is heard over a flipped Stevie Wonder classic, "Rocket Love". Just like Marsha to give us something to hold on to for the moment. Grab Marsha's Late Nights & Early Mornings (here) if you haven't gotten it already.

Styles P- "Brothers" feat. Sheek Louch

2/3 of The Lox are represented on this, "Brothers" track. Styles P brought along his brother Sheek Louch for this track. Rumor has it this won't be on Styles upcoming project, Master Of Ceremonies, which is set to hit stores Oct. 27th.

Another New Phonte' Joint– "The Good Fight" produced by 9th Wonder

"How you gonna sell out? When no body sells out"-Phonte'
Now isn't that the truth in today's industry? The 27th of this month is going to be crazy. Don't know who's album I'm going to get first, Phonte's or 9th Wonder's. Feels like an unofficial Little Brother reunion. Here is another preview from Phonte's forthcoming project Charity Starts At Home with 9th on the boards. Straight Hip Hop. Dope beats, dope rhymes. Also check out the last leak from this project (here).

Ray J Responds Verbally About Apparent Fight With Rapper Fabolous This Weekend

Okay, so apparently Fabolous and Ray J got beef. Apparently the beef started from Fabolous cracking jokes aka 'taking shots' at Ray Jon Twitter. Well apparently both were in Vegas at The Palms Hotel for the fight this weekend and had a fight of their own or some type of beef. Now weather anyone was hurt, smacked up, I don't know, I don't know, but Ray j called into NYC's The Breakfast Club Radio Show this morning to make a statement. **Warning** Ray uses some profanity. Hopefully this beef can be squashed and no one gets hurt. Just for the record, I'm so tired of Twitter beefs. They are getting played out quick. Read more about  the weekend's incident (here). update: Fabolous' response (here).

Another 9th Wonder Joint– "No Pretending" feat. Raekwon & Big Remo

"Now back to blowing holes in the microphone pole. I do it eazy, with 41 years in my soul."-Raekwon.
They call Rae the Chef, because he cooks up some sh*t, but when 9th is in the kitchen with you, you just may come out of the kitchen with a classic. 9th is know for his sick beats and this one may be one of his best and I guess that's why Rae had to let loose with the bullets of lyrics. Now I f*cks with Big Remo, but in all honesty after hearing Rae on this joint I think Remo should have lead off the flow, then pass the baton to Rae for the final lyrical laps. I don't think anyone should have touched the mic after Rae on this joint. 9th's The Wonder Years is set to drop on the 27th (pre-order here).  If you missed the other premiered tracks from this 9th project you can check those out (here) and (here).

Wow!!! A Lost LL Cool J Track Never Released

Slice of Spice is putting out a previously unreleased track by LL Cool J and producer K-Def. The track was made back in 1994 and somewhere along the line of LL closet of singles, this particular got lost or was forgotten about. Here's the story behind this lost track:
Back in 1994 K-Def was working on some beats out of the B Room in Marly Marl’s House Of Hits when LL Cool J walked in on his session and said “let’s make some tracks together”. Uncle L had always wanted to rhyme on a track using the famous ESG breakbeat ‘UFO’, so he had Def lay it down with some scratches and then went to town with the mic. Both thought they had a sure fire hit on their hands but unfortunately it was never used.
